Vinyl aficionados are a special breed. Some feel the medium is the only one that does justice to older recordings, while others enjoy listening to even newer music on actual records instead of more modern CDs or digital formats — and both groups are well-represented in the just-released list of 2011′s top-selling vinyl albums. 


Proving everything old is new again, the Beatles‘ 1969 classic ‘Abbey Road’ moved 41,000 units to take the top spot for the third year in a row — but Adele, last year’s unofficial Queen of All Things Awesome, wasn’t left out of the mix. Her blockbuster album ’21′ made the cut as well. 

Vinyl only accounts for about four percent of total music sales, but the format has been increasingly popular — in 2010, sales rose 14 percent over the previous year, even as music sales overall dropped by the same amount. Indie and classic rock bands tend to own most of the vinyl sales charts, with Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Metallica and Bob Dylan fans keeping those artists on many annual best-selling lists. 

According to Nielsen SoundScan, here’s last year’s top ten line-up:

As previously announced Metal Mind Productions will release the brand new DVD. The Live DVD entitled  "Out Of Order Comes Chaos" will be available in March 2012. It contains a show recorded in Katowice during the Polish leg of the tour promoting the band’s most recent album "Passion". For the first time in their career live material will be released also on a Blu-Ray. The DVD and Blu Ray, as well as a 2 CD set will be available through the Pendragon website.  

The artwork has been created by German design studio Killustrations (a.o. Nervecell, The Very End, Dew-Scented, Hackneyed). 



Commented vocalist/guitarist Nick Barrett: "We've tried to do material that we haven't played very much before, particularly in Poland, and for the DVD we've changed the set drastically so that people don't buy the new DVD and just get the same songs as the last one. In fact it's probably the best DVD we've ever made, lights, visuals and sound are stunning."

German metal, hardcore and rock label LIFEFORCE RECORDS (home of a.o. Nervecell, Night in Gales, Hackneyed and Nightrage) is looking for unsigned acts from the U.S.: 

"YEAHHHH, you read completely right! We want YOUR BAND or your favourite unsigned band to be signed to Lifeforce Records! 

There are a few simple rules you need to keep in mind if you provide us your suggestions, so please read carefully: 

1. This time we are strictly looking for U.S. bands only! 
2. If you are a fun project bullshit band (crabcore, vocoders, autotune, silly haircuts, crying about your girlfriend left…) please don’t waste your and our time, we want a real band! 
3. You need to be active touring or able to tour. Best chances have bands with a booking agent in place already and somewhat of a touring history. 
4. Better be good!

EVERFLOW - Auflösung Und 'Fraud' Veröffentlichung: Ein Statement

Kurz vor ihrer Show beim 'Metal For Mercy'-Festival in Witten am 02.12. haben EVERFLOW unerfreuliches zu berichten:

"Hallo miteinander, 
einige von euch werden mit Sicherheit das Konzertreview zu unserer Show auf dem Exile Festival bei The Pit gelesen haben. Dazu möchten wir folgendes, mittlerweile ja schon fast überfälliges Statement abgeben: 

Leider mussten wir uns Ende August von Romuald trennen. Mit ihm ist dann auch das letzte Gründungsmitglied der Band gegangen. Wir bedauern die Tatsache, dass Romuald nicht mehr Teil dieser Band ist sehr, zu starke Differenzen zwischen uns und ihm machten eine weitere musikalische Zusammenarbeit jedoch so gut wie unmöglich. 

Mit seinem Ausstieg steht momentan eine existentielle Frage für uns im Raum: soll eine Band noch unbedingt unter ihrem ursprünglichen Namen Musik machen, obwohl sie zum einen kein aktives Gründungsmitglied mehr besitzt, und sie sich zum anderen weder stilistisch noch idealistisch mit ihrer musikalischen Vergangenheit assoziiert fühlt? 

Zudem wird es in diesem "Underground" von Jahr zu Jahr schwieriger, qualitativ hochwertige Musik an den Mann zu bringen. Festivals und Supportshows, bei denen es mittlerweile für eine Band unseren Kalibers zum guten Ton gehört, ein paar Scheine für ein Konzert auf den Tisch zu legen, gehören schon seit längerem leider zum Tagesgeschäft und hinterlassen gerade ein riesiges Loch in unserem Konto. 

So ist es uns im Moment nicht möglich, den Release unseres Albums 'Fraud' zu finanzieren. Das Album wird definitiv erscheinen, leider können wir aber zurzeit nicht sagen wann. Die Arbeit an diesem Album hat die Band die letzten 2 Jahre beschäftigt, und wir sehen seine Veröffentlichung als einen adäquaten Schlusspunkt für die Band EVERFLOW. 

Dass uns dies alles anpisst, erscheint nachvollziehbar. Allerdings hatten wir tatsächlich sehr viel Spass auf dem Exile und waren weder wegen Romuald, noch wegen sonst irgendwas so richtig pissed. Es war eine coole Show und die jenigen wenigen, die dort waren, hatten bestimmt genausoviel Spass wie wir auch. 

In diesem Sinne möchten wir euch alle einladen, uns bei unserer Show am 02. Dezember auf dem Metal For Mercy zu besuchen, und mit uns noch ein vermutlich letztes Mal die Hütte abzufackeln. Karten gibt es bei uns, mailt bitte kurz und dann werden wir uns über den Preis einig. Da wir auch dort Karten abnehmen mussten, es aber auch diesmal so gut wie niemanden interessiert, welche coolen Typen auf welchem drittklassigen C-Promi-Festival zu einem guten Zweck performen, schlagen wir vor ihr macht euch selber über einen Preis Gedanken, den ihr bereit seid für das Freitagsticket zu zahlen und schickt uns ein Angebot per e-mail. Das ist dann quasi ein guter Zweck zum guten Zweck: ihr spendet für uns, da wir schon nen ganzen Batzen spenden mussten, um dort spielen zu dürfen. Klingt nach Win-Win, oder? 

Bis dahin möchten wir uns bei euch allen für euer Dasein und euren Support über die ganzen Jahre hinweg bedanken. Kommt zum Festival, kauft unsere T-Shirts (die man übrigens immer noch nicht runterladen kann) und hebt ein Bierchen mit uns.

bis auf weiteres verletzungsbedingt auf ihren etatmäßigen Drummer Don verzichten. Als Ersatz für die anstehenden Shows im September und Oktober konnten kurzfristig der EXUMER Drummer Matthias K. und Markus Jordan von HATEDOTCOM gewonnen werden. 


"Am 9.9. beim 'Fairwell Festival 2011' in Iserlohn und am 24.9. bei der 'Metal Night' in der Rumpelkammer in Kreuztal wird Matthias K. von Exumer die Shows spielen. Am 01.10. beim 'Rock Smell Festival' im Bürgerhaus Oststadt in Essen wird Markus Jordan von Hatedotcom einspringen. Wir sind froh, dass wir zwei ausgezeichnete Schlagwerker für die Shows gewinnen konnten. Ein sehr großes Dankeschön an die beiden, wir freuen uns auf die Shows! Don wird gegen Mitte Oktober wieder am Start sein, und nach seiner Verletzung zurück an Bord kommen."

Brian Wilson's interpretation of Buddy Holly's classic song 'Listen to Me' is a gorgeous merger of Holly's simple, direct melodic phrasing and Wilson's distinct arrangement and production style. The Beach Boys mastermind fills Holly's composition out with angelic harmonies and delicate instrumentation, enough so that some listeners would be forgiven for assuming that it was a Beach Boys tune all along. You can download the track, which will appear on the new Buddy Holly tribute album 'Listen To Me', and pre-order the set, which includes covers recorded by Stevie Nicks, Jackson Browne, Ringo Starr, Zooey Deschanel and many others, at Amazon. Album available at all retailers September 6, 2011 in US and Canada.

METALLICA - thoughts on 20 years 'Metallica' a.k.a 'Black Album'

On this day 20 years ago, one of the most groundbreaking and yet controversial albums in rock history has been unleashed upon mankind: August 12, 1991 saw the release of METALLICA's self-titled fifth album, commonly known as the 'Black Album'! 

The first single 'Enter Sandman', released two weeks prior to the album, and a never seen before media campaign for a metal band caused an unprecedented run upon record shops when the album was officially available from midnight on. 'Metallica' pushed its originators on top of the rock world since then, mentioned in the same breath as The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, AC/DC and U2. Numerous statistics going along with that album could be mentioned to describe the success of this recording, but this feature is not a Wiki.  

Of course, 'Metallica' did not get applause from all sides. For many, this album still is the dividing line between "old" and "new", "good" and "bad" Metallica. This is in the eye of the beholder, but undoubtedly 'Metallica' paved the way to new audiences for all kinds of metal and, as a hypothesis, the metal scene in general may not have grown as huge as it is today, if it wasn't for 'Metallica'. 

Love 'em or hate 'em, there might be nothing in between, but for the author Metallica still is the greatest metal band of all time, and today it's all about celebrating the 20th anniversary of 'Metallica'. "Bang that head that doesn't bang"! 

JON LORD announces cancer diagnosis

JON LORD, the godfather of rock keyboardists, has published the following message on his website today: 

"I would like all my friends, followers, fans and fellow travelers to know that I am fighting cancer and will therefore be taking a break from performing while getting the treatment and cure. 

I shall of course be continuing to write music – in my world it just has to be part of the therapy – and I fully expect to be back in good shape next year.

Dorota Malek is a Polish-born singer residing in Austria since her early childhood. Her 3-track EP "Loosing Myself", produced by Karen Stever and Frank Gryner (Rob Zombie, A Perfect Circle, Tommy Lee, Spineshank), was released in January 2010. Dorota Malek is currently finishing her debut album 'Dayphobia'. 

Automatic Self Destruct, hailing from Bochum, Germany, set out to create disturbing, violent thrash and death metal without setting any limits. Their first full-length album 'Code Death Mission' has been released in April 2011.

So these are the artists promoted by FA: Automatic Self Destruct, Deus Inversus, Dorota Malek, Everflow, Final Depravity, Harasai, Shawn Harvey and The Very End - all unique, all at the top of their game and all available at FA! Vocal artist from Austria 

Dorota Malek is a Polish-born singer residing in Austria since her early childhood. She took her first steps in show business in 1999 at the age of 14. Having used every opportunity to enter a stage since then, Dorota decided to play in a band in 2003. Together with four young musicians she found via the internet, ALICE was founded! It worked fast uphill, but unfortunately the drummer decided to study in 2006 and the band broke up. 

Dorota started her solo career in 2007. First output was the single “All against me”, which led to a management contract with German agency Rex GmbH. Her second passion is acting. She joined some castings e.g. "You Are Dead Within 3 Days" and continued her education in a drama school in Vienna until 2008.

The 3-track EP "Loosing Myself" has been produced by Karen Stever and Frank Gryner (Rob Zombie, A Perfect Circle, Tommy Lee, Spineshank) in autumn 2009 and was released in January 2010. "Loosing Myself", featuring the tracks "All Against Me" (new version), "Vision" and "Dead Bird", is available at iTunes, Amazon MP3 etc. 

Dorota made a guest appearance on the track "Noora" by Dutch/Finnish band Tornado (released on the album "Amsterdamn, Hellsinki" in June 2011, produced by Peter Tägtgren). 

The debut album "Dayphobia" is currently in mixing stage - stay tuned for first impressions to be released soon...

MOTÖRHEAD - Former guitar player Würzel dies aged 61

Michael 'Würzel' Burston  

1949-2011 

Würzel, most known as guitar player in MOTÖRHEAD from 1984 to 1995, died aged 61 on July 9. "No official statement has been made, but it has been widely reported that Burston died of ventricular fibrillation, caused by cardiomyopathy, better known as heart disease." (www.rockedition.com)
