Primarily working in the field of digital compositing, KILLUSTRATIONS uses a variety of techniques to create unique imagery between playful surrealism and colourful morbidity. The interdisciplinary works range from music album and apparel artwork to logotype design, photography and basically everything else in the sphere of graphic art.

KILLUSTRATIONS' client list nowadays reads like a Who's Who of today's metal music scene, including renowned bands, labels and festivals from more than 25 countries. Looking over the rim, KILLUSTRATIONS has furthermore worked with writers, directors, companies and NGOs from various branches and genres. To put it in a nutshell, KILLUSTRATIONS aka Bjoern Goosses lives and breathes graphic art. Hence the maxim: happy designs for happy people.

FINAL DEPRAVITY - Thrash Is Just The Beginning Video Released

German thrashers FINAL DEPRAVITY have released a video for the title track of their new album, Thrash Is Just The Beginning, via YouTube. The clip can be seen below.

Thrash Is Just The Beginning was released on December 13, 2013 via Nihilistic Empire Records / New Music Distribution. The album has been produced by Sascha Risseler and mastered by Dennis Koehne (a.o. Sodom, Exumer, The Very End).

"Die Gelsenkirchener Thrasher FINAL DEPRAVITY sind ein gutes Beispiel dafür, wie sehr die Szene gerade im Pott pulsiert, sich verändert, wächst und nach oben strebt. Schon früh hatten sie diverse Erfolge zu feiern, wozu sicherlich auch damals Sodoms Tom ein wenig beigetragen hatte.

THE VERY END haben mit Turn Off The World erneut ein qualitativ hochwertiges Album am Start. Trotz positiver Presse-Resonanzen haben es die Ruhrpöttler im Vergleich zu Newcomern aus dem Ausland eher schwer einen dauerhaften Fußabruck in der Szene zu hinterlassen. Wir klingelten bei Sänger Björn Goosses zur Bestandsaufnahme durch.

Björn, wie sind die bisherigen Reaktionen auf euer neues Album Turn Off The World?

»Recht cool. Natürlich sind die Reaktionen gemischt, so wie es bei THE VERY END immer ist. Das liegt bei unserem Stilmix einfach in der Natur der Sache. Aber der Grundtenor ist wie immer gut bis sehr gut. Wir haben jetzt so um die 80 Reviews gesammelt und es macht größtenteils Spaß die zu lesen.«

Die deutschen Reime im Opener Splinters sorgen hingegen für einige befremdliche Reaktionen (auch im Rock-Hard-Review in Ausgabe 309). War dir das von vornherein bewusst?

»Jein, uns war bewusst, dass die deutschen Reime auffallen werden. Dabei ist das eher aus Zufall entstanden. Wir hatten die deutschen Zeilen beim Songwriting als Platzhalter drin, irgendwie fanden wir das am Ende aber so cool, dass wir es einfach drin gelassen haben.

Uns war klar, dass den Hörern das auffallen wird, aber dass sich so viele Leute daran stören, war uns nicht wirklich bewusst. Wenn die ersten beiden Zeilen auf holländisch oder Latein gewesen wären, wäre es wahrscheinlich nur zehn Prozent der Leute aufgefallen. Wobei die Reaktionen von gleichgültig bis stark positiv und stark negativ schwanken. Ich fand es etwas albern, dass manche Schreiber sich so dran aufgehangen und einen ganzen Punkt in der Wertung abgezogen haben.

Im Endeffekt sind es elf deutsche Worte auf einem ganzen Album. Aber wir nehmen uns so etwas nicht zu Herzen, ganz im Gegenteil: Wir machen auf dem nächsten Album eher einen komplett deutschsprachigen Song, damit die Leute richtig was zu meckern haben.«

THE VERY END - New Song Iron Sky Available For Streaming And Downloading

German Ruhr area metal act THE VERY END has made a second song from its upcoming album Turn Off The World, Iron Sky, available for streaming via SoundCloud (check widget below). 

In exchange for joining the band’s mailing list, the song can also be downloaded as a 320 kbit/s MP3.

THE VERY END vocalist Bjoern Goosses on Iron Sky: “Everyone of us has experienced some kinds of limits, boundaries, fences and wires. Imagine a rusty shell above your head instead of a blue sky. We´re in this together now, all in the same boat. It´s sinking, right. But that´s no reason to give up. We came in peace, but were born to die. Born under an iron sky.”




Iron Sky comes off the band's new album Turn Off The World, which is due out November 23 (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) / November 26 (Europe) / November 27 (North America) on Steamhammer / SPV.

KILLUSTRATIONS - New Artworks For SODOM And TANTRUM Launched

German design studio KILLUSTRATIONS, founded and operated by artist Björn Goosses, has launched its latest artworks.

One of them is the official poster for the 30th anniversary of German Thrashers SODOM, who certainly don't need to be introduced here.

The second is the cover artwork for the upcoming debut album Rebellion by TANTRUM from Sri Lanka. 

Founded in 2004, the band's style is considered Thrash Metal, with a touch of technical Death Metal and various melodic elements. Classical, Blues, Jazz & Eastern elements are also influential to the band when creating music.

The release of two singles and an EP in 2005/2006 brought the band into the public eye in Asia, but major line-up changes put the newcomers on hold for quite a while.

Now in 2012 "Tantrum is looking forward to opening the floodgates to a whole new level of music, and take Sri Lankan heavy metal to greater heights, and their journey has just begun..."

Die deutschen Melodic Metaller von Night in Gales haben mit „Five Scars“ nach einer sehr langen Pause ihr fünftes Album veröffentlicht.

Im Interview mit Frontmann Björn geht es um das Album, Trends, Aufnahmetechniken und die Szene von gestern und heute.


The-Pit.de: Hi Björn, schön, dass Du Zeit für uns hast. Eine Frage brennt unter den Nägeln und kann deshalb auch nicht warten. Die Reaktion auf „Five Scars“ bei The-Pit.de fiel ja recht gut aus. Wie war das denn in anderen Fällen? 

Björn: Generell sind die Reviews recht gut ausgefallen. Wir haben bis jetzt so um die achtzig gelesen und die waren im Durchschnitt so bei 8.5 von 10 Punkten. Natürlich gibt es immer wieder einmal jemanden, der die Scheibe nicht mag. Manchmal fragt man sich allerdings schon, was sich die Journalisten bei dem einen oder anderen Satz denken. Jemand meinte, nur beispielsweise, wir seien eine junge Metalband, die auf den Melodic Death Metal Zug aufspringen will. Das ist natürlich in zweifacher Hinsicht Quatsch. Erstens gibt es uns ja schon recht lange und zweitens gibt es im Moment bestimmt keine Stilrichtung im Metal, die weniger in ist als den Melodic Death Metal. Diese Stilrichtung hat sich in den letzten Jahren ja nun wirklich sehr totgelaufen. Vielleicht kommt irgendwann ein Revival. Das muss sich aber erst noch zeigen. Zurückkommend zur eigentlichen Frage kann ich sagen, dass wir sehr zufrieden sind und wir in vielen Magazinen so im oberen Viertel abgeschnitten haben. Dann gab es auch einige, die uns die Höchstpunktzahl gaben und bei einigen waren wir sogar Album des Monats. Das ist schon eine coole Sache. 

The-Pit.de: Wenn der Rundling gut ist, dann darf man das ja auch sagen.

Björn: (lacht) Ja, natürlich. Selbst eine schlechte Review ist ja irgendwie Promotion für die Band, aber eine gute liest man dann doch lieber.

The-Pit.de: Gab es bei „Five Scars“ ein Konzept oder stehen die Songs in sonst einem Zusammenhang zueinander?

Björn: Musikalisch gibt es eigentlich kein Konzept. Die Songs sind nicht voneinander abhängig und würden auch alle separat funktionieren. Der Ablauf der Scheibe ist natürlich schon überlegt. Man sitzt als Band schon zusammen und grübelt darüber, in welcher Reihenfolge man nun die Songs auf die CD packt. Grundlegend ist die Anordnung, so wie sie jetzt ist, aber kein Produkt eines großen Konzepts. Die Songs sind da wo sie sind, weil sie dort gut hingepasst haben. Textlich verhält sich die Sache recht ähnlich. Night in Gales hatten noch nie ein Konzeptalbum. Trotzdem kann man immer einen roten Faden in den Lyrics erkennen. Die Grundlage hierfür sind aber in der Regel äußere Umstände. Ein Album entsteht meist innerhalb weniger Monate und so sind die Texte meist aus der gleichen Zeitspanne. Meistens umfasst das Textspektrum Verluste, den Tod oder sonstige Arten menschlicher Tragödien. Dadurch, dass das Album innerhalb weniger Monate entstand, hört man schon, dass die Songs alle aus einem Guss sind. Das ist aber produktionsbedingt und war nie eine Grundvoraussetzung.

The-Pit.de: Gemischt hat die Scheibe ja Dan Swanö. Das steht schon immer für Qualität. Wie gefällt dir der Sound der Scheibe?

Björn: Der Sound klingt auf jeden Fall reifer. „Necrodynamic“ war vom Mix her leider der Tiefpunkt der bisherigen Veröffentlichungen. Zu der Zeit wollten wir viel zuviel mitreden und der damalige Produzent hat uns aber auch nicht in die Schranken gewiesen. Das Ergebnis kann man hören. „Five Scars“ klingt da schon deutlich traditioneller und ausgewogener. Manche behaupten, es gehe recht back to the roots. Das sehe ich nicht ganz so. Ich denke eher, es sind Elemente aller unserer Alben vertreten. Dan Swanö hat das Album gemischt, weil er es gerne machen wollte. Das soll heißen, dass er nicht nur seinen Job gemacht hat, sondern wirklich Lust hatte, genau dieses Album zu mischen. Ein wichtiger Grund mit Dan Swanö zu arbeiten war auch, dass er ja selbst aus dieser Musikrichtung kommt.

As previously announced Metal Mind Productions will release the brand new DVD. The Live DVD entitled  "Out Of Order Comes Chaos" will be available in March 2012. It contains a show recorded in Katowice during the Polish leg of the tour promoting the band’s most recent album "Passion". For the first time in their career live material will be released also on a Blu-Ray. The DVD and Blu Ray, as well as a 2 CD set will be available through the Pendragon website.  

The artwork has been created by German design studio Killustrations (a.o. Nervecell, The Very End, Dew-Scented, Hackneyed). 



Commented vocalist/guitarist Nick Barrett: "We've tried to do material that we haven't played very much before, particularly in Poland, and for the DVD we've changed the set drastically so that people don't buy the new DVD and just get the same songs as the last one. In fact it's probably the best DVD we've ever made, lights, visuals and sound are stunning."

DAVIDIAN - Cover Artwork Of Upcoming Album Revealed

Germany's DAVIDIAN have revealed the cover artwork of their upcoming album 'Our Fear Is Their Force'.

As with the 2008 album 'Hear Their Cries', the artwork was designed by KILLUSTRATIONS (a.o. Nervecell, Hackneyed, The Very End, Dew-Scented, Night in Gales and Motorjesus). 

'Our Fear Is Their Force' has been produced by Tue Madsen at Antfarm Studio in Aarhus/Denmark.  

The album will be released via Massacre Records on February 24, 2012.

THE VERY END / NIGHT IN GALES - Vocalist Has Guest Appearance On New METALETY Album

THE VERY END and NIGHT IN GALES vocalist Björn Goosses has joined forces with German powerthrash outfit METALETY. He recorded some guestvocals at Gernhart Studios for their new album, which will see the light of day in early 2012.  

Commented Björn: "I wanted to stop by in Martin´s studio for a long time anyway, and recording some vocals for Metalety there made me hit two birds with one stone. The track "Evolution" is awesome, even though I´m on it now, ha ha! Looking forward to hearing the rest of the album!".
